Themes & Plugins
Manage a site's themes and plugins from your site → Themes & Plugins - no wp-admin needed. Each has its own card with a grid of installed items and their status.
Install
Two ways to add something, on either the Themes or Plugins card:
- Search: search the WordPress.org directory and install a result.
- Add Theme / Add Plugin: install by its exact slug from
wordpress.org (e.g.
astra,woocommerce,wordpress-seo).
Newly installed items are not activated automatically - activate them when you're ready.
Activate & deactivate
- Plugins: Activate or Deactivate with the button on each card.
- Themes: Activate a theme to make it live. You can't deactivate the active theme; switch to a different one instead.
Each item shows a status badge: Active, Inactive, or Must-Use.
Update
When an update is available, the card is highlighted and shows the new version. Click the update action to install it. Turn on auto-update per item to keep it current automatically.
Delete
Use the delete action and confirm - this permanently removes the theme or plugin.
Must-use plugins are protected
Plugins marked Must-Use (including MagicWP's own) keep your site running. They can't be deactivated, deleted, or set to auto-update from here.
Test before and after big changes
Activating, updating, or deleting can affect a live site. Take a backup first, and after a major change flush your caches so visitors get the new version.
Automatic updates
Each plugin and theme has an auto-update switch in its row. Turn it on and WordPress installs new releases as they appear, without you visiting the dashboard.
To set it for everything at once, use Auto-update all plugins and Auto-update all themes on the WP Settings → Advanced tab. Those switches and the per-item ones are the same WordPress setting, so changing one place is reflected in the other.
Which ones to turn on
Auto-updates are the difference between a plugin vulnerability being patched the day it's disclosed and it sitting open until someone remembers. They suit plugins you rely on but don't customise.
Be more careful with anything your theme or a developer has modified, or a page builder your layout depends on - those are the ones where an update can change how the site looks. For those, a staging site is the place to try the update first.
